| CoPEH-TLAC, A Community of Practice in EcoHealth
– Toxics in Latin America and the Caribbean, is a collaborative
programme between organizations and institutions in Latin
America and the Caribbean and the University of Quebec in
Montreal, Canada.
The six centres of excellence which comprise the coordinating
bodies of the CoPEH-TLAC are:
- Interdisciplinary Research Center on Biology, Health, Society and Environment (CINBIOSE-Canada);
- The Institute for studies on toxic substances at the
National University of Costa Rica (IRET-UNA);
- The National institute of public health (INSP-México);
- The Foundation for health, environment and work (FUNSAD-Ecuador);
- The Women’s studies centre (CEM-Chile);
- The Centre of sustainable development (CDS, University
of Brasilia, Brazil) and the Federal
- University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
Representatives of each node are responsible, conjointly,
for delineating the objectives and activities of the CoPEH-TLAC
programme. The interdisciplinary nature of this team (with
specialists in occupational health, epidemiology, sociology,
medicine, environmental hygiene, communication, psychology,
neurophysiology, statistics and geography) make it a rich
and comprehensive coordinating group. The CoPEH-TLAC is financed
by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC-Canada).
This website was conceived to exchange, learn and cooperate
with other networks. It is a form of keeping in touch, which
is a growing necessity and essential for improving means,
access and skills, all important for the advancement of the
region. The website provides a quick and simple summary of
who we are and what we do. Also, online communication between
members, organized courses and online sessions will promote
the diffusion of our ongoing work. Learning from past experiences,
we do not plan to rely only on our WEB page for communication
and outreach (recruitment), but to use it as a resource of
information and a compliment to our more proactive strategies
in the field.
For more information you can consult the different sections,
in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and English, which you can
find listed in the general menu at your left and in the menu
of the nodes at your right.
We hope you enjoy the site!
